by Todd Schuler posted 02/08/2012

Wednesday, February 1, 2012 -- Six Panther Creek athletes will accept Division I athletic scholarships on Wednesday, February 1, officially making commitments to continue participating in athletics at the collegiate level.

Daniel Beilinson and Jamel Ross, both football players for the Catamounts, will sign National Letters of Intent to stay in state and continue their football careers.  Beilinson will accept a scholarship to attend Duke University.  Jamel Ross will commit to play at UNC Charlotte.

Madeline Bisantz and Asyia Mitchell will both sign Letters of Intent to play soccer at Radford University in Virginia.  Kennedy Garrett will sign and commit to play soccer at UNC Asheville.

Cross Country standout, Dana Cox, will sign to run at Appalachian State University.

Four Panther Creek athletes have been recruited to continue playing athletics at the Division III level.  Division III schools provide financial grants-in-aid based on need and do not offer athletic scholarships. Teammates Emily Hendricks and Jasmine Aguinaldo will stay local to play college volleyball at Meredith College.  Noah Parson will play lacrosse in New York at Vassar College.   Joshua Hong will play soccer at Johns Hopkins in Maryland.

Additionally, four Catamounts signed Letters of Intent during the Fall Signing Period.  Kristin Connors will swim at NC State University.  Henriette Stenkvist will swim at the University of Southern California.  Kayla Seymour will continue her basketball career at UMBC.  Thomas Young will play baseball at Gardner-Webb University.  Claire Wach, a multi-sport standout in tennis, basketball and lacrosse, is expected to sign a letter of intent to continue playing lacrosse at Lenoir-Rhyne during the April Signing Period.
